 Synonyms & Historicals
Work of Breathing .
Breathing Work .
Breathing Works .
RESPIRATORY MUSCLE contraction during INHALATION. The work is accomplished in three phases: LUNG COMPLIANCE work, that required to expand the LUNGS against its elastic forces; tissue resistance work, that required to overcome the viscosity of the lung and chest wall structures; and AIRWAY RESISTANCE work, that required to overcome airway resistance during the movement of air into the lungs. Work of breathing does not refer to expiration, which is entirely a passive process caused by elastic recoil of the lung and chest cage. (Guyton, Textbook of Medical Physiology, 8th ed, p406) .

Choking .
Any hindrance to the passage of air into and out of the lungs. .
Cough .
Coughs .
A sudden, audible expulsion of air from the lungs through a partially closed glottis, preceded by inhalation. It is a protective response that serves to clear the trachea, bronchi, and/or lungs of irritants and secretions, or to prevent aspiration of foreign materials into the lungs. .
Right to Work .
Right to Employment .
Article 23 or the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that (1) Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment. (2) Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work. (3) Everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection. Closing Volume .
Closing Volumes .
Volume, Closing .
Volumes, Closing .
The lung volume at which the dependent lung zones cease to ventilate presumably as a result of airway closure. .
Pendular Migration .
It refers to the spatial mobility in which, for work reasons, there is a displacement from the residence to the workplace. .
Pneumonolysis .
Pneumonolyses .
Division of the tissues attaching the lung to the wall of the chest cavity, to permit collapse of the lung. It was formerly used to treat tuberculosis. (Dorland, 28th ed) .
Rescue Work .
Work, Rescue .
Activities devoted to freeing persons or animals from danger to life or well-being in accidents, fires, bombings, floods, earthquakes, other disasters and life-threatening conditions. While usually performed by team efforts, rescue work is not restricted to organized services. .
